Infections from tattooing are scary and life threatening. Everything from Hepatitis to staph infections and even MRSA the superbug, have been linked to tattoos. Dirty needles and unsanitary conditions are often to blame. That's why tattoo and body piercing establishments are required to be licensed and inspected by the local board of health. Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 3701.9 was established to provide the minimum standards by which tattoo and body piercing operators must follow.
Registered Sanitarians at the Fairfield County Health Department inspect the facilities in this county to minimize the incidence of disease. Not only do sanitarians make regular inspections of these facilities but inspections are also conducted in response to complaints.
As required by the OAC, persons performing body art services must have appropriate training such as, knowledge of sterilization, first aid and standard precautions for preventing transmission of blood borne and other infectious diseases.
